Size Guide

Choosing the correct size improves comfort, movement, protection and performance. Use this guide to measure yourself and compare your measurements with the size chart displayed on the relevant product page. Because Sportsmart.com offers products from multiple brands and sellers, sizing may differ between brands, product models and sports categories. Always treat the product-specific brand size chart as the final reference before ordering.

01Before You Select a Size

For the most accurate result:

  • Take measurements using a flexible measuring tape.
  • Measure directly over light clothing wherever possible.
  • Keep the measuring tape level and comfortably fitted, without pulling it too tight.
  • Measure both feet, hands, legs or arms where applicable.
  • Use the larger measurement when the two sides differ.
  • Record measurements in centimetres.
  • Compare your measurements with the chart shown on the product page.
  • Consider whether you prefer a close, regular or relaxed fit.

Do not select a size based only on the size you normally wear in another brand.

02Which Size Chart Should You Follow?

Use the following order when selecting a size:

  1. The size chart shown on the individual product page
  2. The size chart provided by the product’s brand
  3. The measurement instructions in this Sportsmart Size Guide
  4. Assistance from Sportsmart Support or the seller, where available

Brand-specific charts take priority over general sizing recommendations.

03Sports Footwear Size Guide

Sports footwear includes running shoes, training shoes, cricket shoes, football studs, badminton shoes, tennis shoes, basketball shoes, skating shoes and other sport-specific footwear.

How to Measure Your Foot

You will need:

  • A sheet of paper
  • A pencil or pen
  • A ruler or measuring tape
  • The type of socks you normally wear while playing

Measurement Steps

  1. Place the paper on a hard, level floor against a wall.
  2. Wear your usual sports socks.
  3. Stand upright with your heel gently touching the wall.
  4. Place your full weight naturally on the foot.
  5. Mark the point reached by your longest toe.
  6. Measure the distance from the edge of the paper to the mark.
  7. Repeat the process for the other foot.
  8. Use the longer foot measurement when checking the brand’s size chart.

Measure your feet in the evening when they may be slightly larger after normal daily activity.

Foot Length and Shoe Size

Use your foot length in centimetres to find the corresponding size in the product-specific chart.

Footwear sizes may be displayed using:

  • India or UK sizing
  • US sizing
  • European sizing
  • Centimetre sizing

Conversions are not identical across every brand. A UK size from one brand may fit differently from the same UK size offered by another brand.

Choosing the Correct Footwear Fit

Your footwear should:

  • Hold the heel securely
  • Allow natural toe movement
  • Avoid pressure on the sides of the foot
  • Provide adequate support for the relevant sport
  • Remain comfortable while wearing your normal sports socks

For running and high-movement sports, a small amount of space in front of the longest toe is generally preferable to a tight fit.

Football boots, court shoes and performance footwear may be designed for a closer fit. Review the product description and brand recommendations before selecting a size.

When You Are Between Two Sizes

When your measurement falls between two sizes:

  • Select the larger size when you prefer additional toe room or wear thicker socks.
  • Consider the smaller size only when the brand identifies the product as having a wide or relaxed fit.
  • Check whether the product is described as narrow, regular or wide.
  • Review customer fit feedback where available.

04Apparel Size Guide

This section applies to sports T-shirts, jerseys, tracksuits, shorts, trousers, leggings, jackets, compression wear, activewear and other sports apparel.

How to Measure Your Body

Chest or Bust

Measure around the fullest part of the chest or bust. Keep the tape level under the arms and across the back.

Waist

Measure around the natural waistline, usually the narrowest part of the torso. Do not hold your breath or pull the tape tightly.

Hips

Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat.

Shoulder Width

Measure across the back from the edge of one shoulder to the edge of the other shoulder.

Sleeve Length

Measure from the top of the shoulder, along the arm and down to the wrist. Keep the arm slightly bent.

Inseam

Measure from the upper inside leg down to the ankle or desired trouser length.

Height

Stand barefoot against a wall and measure from the floor to the top of the head.

Selecting an Apparel Fit

Sports apparel may be described as:

Compression Fit

Designed to fit tightly against the body. Select this only when you specifically require compression clothing.

Slim or Athletic Fit

Designed to sit close to the body while allowing sports movement.

Regular Fit

Provides a balanced fit suitable for everyday training and general sports use.

Relaxed Fit

Provides additional room around the body and is suitable for customers who prefer a looser fit.

When body measurements fall between two sizes, select the larger size for a relaxed fit or the smaller size for a closer athletic fit, subject to the brand’s recommendations.

Children’s Apparel

Age-based labels such as 8–10 years or 12–14 years are only general references. Children of the same age may have different heights and body measurements.

Use the child’s actual:

  • Height
  • Chest measurement
  • Waist measurement
  • Hip measurement
  • Inseam

Compare these measurements with the product-specific chart instead of relying only on age.

05Sports Gloves Size Guide

This section applies to cricket batting gloves, wicketkeeping gloves, goalkeeper gloves, cycling gloves, gym gloves, boxing gloves and other sports gloves.

How to Measure Your Hand

Palm Circumference

Wrap the measuring tape around the widest part of the dominant hand, excluding the thumb.

Hand Length

Measure from the base of the palm to the tip of the longest finger.

Measure both hands and use the larger measurement.

Glove Fit

A properly fitted sports glove should:

  • Fit securely without restricting movement
  • Allow the fingers to bend comfortably
  • Avoid excess material at the fingertips
  • Remain stable during sports activity
  • Avoid pressure that causes numbness or discomfort

Different glove categories use different sizing methods. Boxing gloves may also be selected by weight in ounces rather than only by hand size. Follow the product-specific chart and intended-use recommendation.

06Helmet Size Guide

This section applies to cricket helmets, cycling helmets, skating helmets and other protective sports helmets.

How to Measure Your Head

  1. Use a flexible measuring tape.
  2. Place the tape approximately 2.5 centimetres above the eyebrows.
  3. Wrap it around the widest part of the head.
  4. Keep the tape level above the ears and around the back of the head.
  5. Record the circumference in centimetres.
  6. Compare the measurement with the helmet manufacturer’s chart.

Checking Helmet Fit

A correctly fitted helmet should:

  • Sit level on the head
  • Cover the intended protective area
  • Feel secure without causing painful pressure
  • Remain stable when the head moves
  • Not slide forward, backward or sideways
  • Allow straps and adjustment systems to be secured properly

Do not purchase an oversized helmet for a child with the expectation that the child will grow into it. An incorrectly fitted helmet may not provide the intended level of protection.

Never modify, cut, drill or remove protective helmet components to improve fit.

07Protective Equipment Size Guide

Protective equipment includes cricket pads, shin guards, elbow guards, thigh guards, abdominal guards, chest guards, knee pads, skating guards and similar products.

Measurements Commonly Required

Depending on the product, you may need to measure:

Protective productMeasurement to check
Cricket batting padsPlayer height or shin length
Football shin guardsPlayer height and shin length
Knee padsKnee circumference
Elbow guardsElbow or arm circumference
Thigh guardsThigh circumference
Chest guardsChest circumference
Abdominal guardsWaist measurement
Skating protection setsAge, height and joint circumference

Protective equipment should cover the intended area without shifting during movement.

Straps should feel secure but should not restrict circulation, movement or normal breathing.

08Cricket Bat Size Guide

Cricket bat sizing is generally based on the player’s height. The following table is a general reference only. Bat dimensions and recommendations may differ by manufacturer.

Approximate player heightCommon bat size
Below 122 cmSize 0
122–130 cmSize 1
130–137 cmSize 2
137–145 cmSize 3
145–150 cmSize 4
150–157 cmSize 5
157–165 cmSize 6
165–173 cmHarrow
Above 173 cmShort Handle or adult size

Player strength, age, batting technique and bat weight should also be considered.

A bat that is too heavy may affect control, timing and technique even when its length appears suitable. Junior players should generally prioritise comfortable pickup and control over maximum bat size or weight.

Always review the manufacturer’s chart before placing an order.

09Cricket Batting Pad Size Guide

Cricket batting pads may be offered in:

  • Small junior
  • Junior
  • Youth
  • Men’s
  • Oversized men’s

To estimate the appropriate size:

  1. Measure from the centre of the kneecap to the top of the foot.
  2. Compare the measurement with the brand chart.
  3. Confirm whether the pads are right-handed, left-handed or ambidextrous.
  4. Check that the knee roll aligns with the kneecap.
  5. Ensure the pad covers the shin without interfering with running or foot movement.

10Cricket Gloves Size Guide

For cricket batting and wicketkeeping gloves:

  1. Measure from the start of the wrist to the tip of the longest finger.
  2. Measure the circumference around the widest part of the palm.
  3. Compare both measurements with the manufacturer’s chart.
  4. Check whether the product is designed for junior, youth or adult players.

The glove should permit a secure grip without excessive movement inside the glove.

11Racket and Racquet Grip Size Guide

Badminton, tennis, squash and other racket-sport products may use different grip-size systems.

Grip size may be indicated using:

  • Numbers
  • Letters
  • Circumference measurements
  • Brand-specific codes

Do not assume that the same grip code means the same measurement across different brands.

Checking Grip Size

The grip should allow you to:

  • Hold the racket securely
  • Move the wrist naturally
  • Change grip positions comfortably
  • Avoid excessive hand or forearm tension

A grip that is too small may require excessive gripping force. A grip that is too large may reduce wrist movement and control.

An overgrip can slightly increase grip thickness, but it should not be used to compensate for a substantially incorrect base grip size.

12Cycle Size Guide

Cycle sizing depends on:

  • Rider height
  • Inseam length
  • Frame geometry
  • Wheel size
  • Riding style
  • Cycle category

Mountain bikes, road bikes, hybrid cycles and children’s cycles may use different sizing systems.

How to Measure Inseam for a Cycle

  1. Stand barefoot with your back against a wall.
  2. Keep your feet approximately shoulder-width apart.
  3. Place a book firmly between the legs, similar to a cycle saddle.
  4. Measure from the top edge of the book to the floor.
  5. Record the measurement in centimetres.

Compare both your height and inseam with the cycle manufacturer’s recommended chart.

For children’s cycles, wheel size alone should not be used as the only selection factor. The child should be able to reach the handlebars and operate the brakes safely.

Professional fitting may be advisable for performance cycles.

13Skates Size Guide

Skate sizing may differ from normal footwear sizing.

To select skates:

  • Measure both feet in centimetres.
  • Wear the socks normally used while skating.
  • Follow the skate brand’s size chart.
  • Check whether the model is adjustable.
  • Confirm the supported foot-length range for adjustable children’s skates.

Skates should fit securely around the foot and ankle without painful pressure or excessive internal movement.

Do not select skates that are substantially oversized, as this may reduce stability and control.

14Fitness Equipment Sizing

Some fitness products also require size selection.

Yoga Mats

Check:

  • Mat length
  • Mat width
  • Thickness
  • Intended exercise type

Taller users may prefer a mat that extends beyond both the head and feet when lying down.

Resistance Bands

Resistance bands are generally selected by resistance level rather than body size. Choose the resistance according to your exercise experience, movement and training objective.

Weightlifting Belts

Measure around the area where the belt will be worn, usually around the waist or torso. Do not select a belt using trouser-waist size alone.

Gym Gloves and Wrist Supports

Measure palm circumference and wrist circumference according to the product chart.

Knee Sleeves and Elbow Sleeves

Measure around the joint at the position specified by the manufacturer. Some brands require measurement above or below the joint.

15Left-Handed and Right-Handed Products

Some sports products are designed for a specific playing side.

Examples include:

  • Cricket batting gloves
  • Cricket batting pads
  • Thigh guards
  • Abdominal guards
  • Golf gloves
  • Archery equipment
  • Certain protective products

For cricket equipment:

  • A right-handed batter generally requires right-handed batting equipment.
  • A left-handed batter generally requires left-handed batting equipment.

Review the product title, specifications and selected variant before confirming the order.

16How to Choose Between Two Sizes

When you are between sizes, consider:

  • The brand’s stated fit
  • The type of sport
  • Whether the product is worn over other clothing
  • Whether you prefer a close or relaxed fit
  • Whether the product has adjustable straps
  • Whether thicker sports socks will be used
  • Whether the item is intended for protection or casual use

For protective equipment, select the size that provides secure coverage without restricting movement. Do not intentionally select an oversized protective product merely for future growth.

19Frequently Asked Questions

Are Sportsmart sizes the same across every brand?

No. Sportsmart is a multi-brand marketplace, and sizing may differ between brands and product models. Always refer to the size chart displayed on the relevant product page.

Should I select my usual shoe size?

Use your usual size only as a starting reference. Measure your foot length and compare it with the specific brand chart because footwear sizing and fit can vary.

What should I do when I am between two sizes?

Review the brand’s fit recommendation and the intended use of the product. In many cases, the larger size may provide more comfort, but protective and performance products must remain secure.

Should children’s products be selected by age?

Age is only a general reference. Use the child’s actual height and body measurements whenever a measurement chart is available.

How do I select a helmet size?

Measure the circumference around the widest part of the head, approximately 2.5 centimetres above the eyebrows, and compare it with the helmet brand’s chart.

Can I exchange a product when the size does not fit?

Size exchanges or returns depend on the product’s eligibility and Sportsmart’s applicable return policy. Keep the product unused, with its original tags, packaging and accessories, until the fit has been confirmed.

Which chart should I follow when the Sportsmart guide and brand chart differ?

Always follow the size chart provided for the specific product or by the product manufacturer.

Can Sportsmart guarantee that a recommended size will fit?

Sizing recommendations are provided to assist with product selection, but fit may vary according to body shape, personal preference, product design and brand construction. Customers should review all available measurements before ordering.
